FAQs
Planning your first visit to Side Quest Cards? Find answers below about casual play, organised events, tournaments and using our gaming space.
Visiting and Casual Play
Can I visit without joining an event?
Yes. You are welcome to browse the store, ask questions or use the gaming space without joining a scheduled event.
You do not need to be an experienced player or already know what you want to play.
Can I play board games or casual card games with friends?
Yes. You are welcome to use available tables for casual board games, trading card games and other tabletop games.
You can bring your own games and decks, or use selected store games and decks where available. Scheduled events may take priority during busy periods.
Do I need to book a table?
Individuals and small groups will not usually need to book, but tables are subject to availability.
Larger groups should contact us in advance, especially during evenings and weekends.
Is there a charge to use the gaming tables?
Casual table use will generally be available when space permits.
Some organised sessions, reserved tables or special activities may have a fee. Any applicable cost will be clearly displayed before you participate.
Can I borrow or rent a deck?
Yes. We plan to have a selection of store decks available to rent.
These may be used to learn a game, try something new or play casually without purchasing a complete deck first. Availability, rental pricing and any deposit requirements will be displayed in store.
Can someone teach me how to play?
Our team will be able to provide assistance with learning new games.
We also plan to offer beginner-friendly activities and learn-to-play opportunities. Store rental decks can be a useful way to try a game before deciding whether it is right for you.
Can I come by myself?
Absolutely. Many people visit local game stores alone.
You are welcome to browse, play independently or join an organised event. Our team can help you identify beginner-friendly and social events where it may be easier to meet other players.
Are children and families welcome?
Yes. Side Quest Cards is intended to be welcoming to children, families and new players.
Some activities may have recommended age ranges, and younger children must be appropriately supervised.
Do you offer low-sensory sessions?
Yes. From January 2027, we plan to introduce The Common Room, our low-sensory and supported social gaming program.
It will include Open Table for calm, self-directed play and Guided Quest for structured small-group sessions supported by disability professionals.
What are Guild Marks?
Guild Marks are Side Quest Cards’ loyalty and participation rewards. Members will be able to earn them through eligible purchases, events and selected store activities, then redeem them for available rewards.
Visit our Guild Marks page for full details about earning, redeeming and available rewards.
Events and Tournaments
How do I find and register for events?
Upcoming events will be listed on our website and may also be announced through our social media channels.
Each listing will explain the game, format, date, start time, entry fee, experience level and registration process.
Do I need to bring my own deck?
That depends on the event.
Constructed events usually require you to bring a legal deck. Draft, sealed and selected beginner events provide the products needed to participate.
Store rental decks may be available for some casual or beginner sessions, but they may not be legal for every organised tournament. The event listing will explain what you need to bring.
Are your events beginner-friendly?
Many will be, but not every event will be suitable for someone learning the rules for the first time.
Beginner-friendly, casual and learn-to-play events will be clearly labelled. More competitive events will also explain the expected experience level.
Are all events competitive?
No. Our calendar will include casual play, social sessions, leagues, learn-to-play activities and organised tournaments.
Each listing will explain whether the event is relaxed, structured or competitive.
What time should I arrive?
Please arrive approximately 10 to 15 minutes before the advertised start time unless the event listing says otherwise.
This allows time to check in and prepare before the first round begins.
What happens if I arrive late or need to leave early?
Late-entry rules will depend on the event format. You may receive a round loss or be unable to enter once the event has started.
You may leave an event early, but please tell a staff member so you can be removed from future pairings.
What should I do if there is a rules disagreement?
Pause the game and ask a staff member or event judge for assistance.
Players should not feel pressured to accept another player’s interpretation of a rule.
What behaviour is expected?
Everyone must treat players, staff and visitors respectfully.
Harassment, discrimination, intimidation, cheating, aggressive behaviour and deliberate damage to property will not be tolerated.
